Improve Hamstring Flexibility; Improve Your Golf Game.

You might be wondering what hamstring flexibility has to do with your golf performance; the truth is it’s essential for a powerful golf swing.

Your hamstrings help stabilize and balance your body as you swing. Hamstrings also influence your spinal rotation, knee flexion, and hip rotation, all of which are essential for your golf swing.

When your hamstrings are tight, your body cannot properly rotate, which impacts your swing performance. It’s also common for tight hamstrings to impact your lower back, resulting in unwanted back pain.

Give yourself a self-test; stand in your address posture. How do your legs feel?

If you can’t feel your hamstring muscles activated while in this pose, you’ll want to improve your hamstring flexibility and strength.

It has been shown that static stretching training (which means holding your stretch for a longer time), that is, three sets of 30 secs, reduced eccentric torque compared to no stretching and dynamic stretching (3 sets of 30 reps).

This is why, to help improve your hamstring flexibility, you’ll want to perform dynamic stretching in your daily routine.

The following exercise will work on lengthening your hamstrings and improving your range of motion and strength.

Setup

  • Begin sitting upright on the edge of a table or bed with one leg resting straight on the bed and your other foot on the floor.

Movement

  • Gently lean forward, hinging at your hips, until you feel a stretch on the back of your leg. Keep moving forward and backward.

Pro-Tip

  • Make sure to keep your knee straight and your toes pointing up toward the ceiling. Do not round your back as you bend forward.
