Posture Makes Perfect

How Posture Impacts Sport Performance

It doesn’t matter if you consider yourself a pro-athlete or an amateur when it comes to high performance. It also doesn’t matter how old you are or your skill level. The main factor that separates a high-performer from a low-performer is good posture. Specifically, good dynamic posture, let me explain.

You are probably familiar with the word posture; remember when your parents would say, “sit-up straight, stop slouching?” We refer to this as static posture, how your body aligns when you aren’t moving, like sitting or standing. Of course, having good static posture is important, and you should continue to be mindful of it, but dynamic posture is paramount for someone who plays golf and other sports.

Dynamic posture is the way your body moves from one position to another. When your body moves, many muscles are moving all at once and usually very quickly. These movements are usually done repeatedly and over time, which causes your muscles to develop muscle memory. Meaning, without thinking, your body will automatically function the way it’s been taught to move, even if it’s harmful to your body and your performance.

When someone has poor dynamic posture, they are much more likely to suffer from muscle instability, reduced endurance, poor circulation, respiratory issues, lower back pain, other mobility issues linked to pain, and an increased likelihood of injury. As you can see, good dynamic posture directly correlates to performance. The problem is many people don’t know if they have bad dynamic posture, so they continue playing using the same movements only to accelerate the many issues associated with bad dynamic posture.

Fortunately, there’s a solution. At PerformanceAbove, we use state-of-the-art technology to map how you move and identify muscular and postural imbalances. I will create a custom functional performance program that will improve your strength, flexibility, balance, and mobility from this data. These are the major components responsible for good dynamic posture and high performance.

Additionally, you will learn the proper technique and form, no matter which sport you play.

It’s time to improve your dynamic posture and teach your muscles the right way to move. With good posture, nothing can stop you.
