How Better Brain Health Improves Your Golf Game

When clients sign-up for my Performance Golf Program, they see me because they can’t play how they used to. The body produces feelings of pain faster than before, which affects their form and how well they play.

Common ailments are:

  • Lower back pain;

  • Feeling of tingling or numbness in their arms or legs; and/or

  • Shoulder and hip pain.

The truth is, pain should not be ignored, nor should you believe that the pain is “normal.” Suppose you are experiencing pain when you golf, then it’s your body’s way of giving you a sign that something needs to change.

That’s why improving form, strength, and mobility is important, which results in feeling and playing better. Moreover, it decreases the likelihood of experiencing an injury. Implementing strength training into your routine is key to improving your game. Strength training not only strengthens your muscles but also improves brain health. The brain typically gets overlooked as a muscle you’re strengthening while improving your golf game, but I hope this article will open your eyes to the benefits of strength training and better brain health.

Strength training increases your cognitive function and performance by directly impacting your hippocampus, which helps improve memory, focus, and learning functions. This helps you not only on the course but in everyday life. You’ll notice your better recall in memory, better focus, and improved executive functions. Moreover, strength training releases serotonin and dopamine levels which help improve and stabilize your mood. Another important benefit of strength training is how it releases and balances hormones. When hormones are out of wack, this can make you feel weak, tired, and moody. With strength training, you can stimulate the release of human growth hormone, which helps build muscle and burn fat—moreover, the brain releases and balances estrogen and testosterone, which is particularly important as you grow older.

So, when you’re on the course and feeling stiff, sore, and in pain, think about how your body may benefit from a tune-up, and incorporating a strength training regime into your routine will help your mind and body stay under par

Suppose you are in the Aiken, SC area or interested in a virtual consultation. In that case, I welcome you to schedule your appointment, and I look forward to discussing how my Golf Performance Program can help better your brain and body health for years to come.
